Cartoonist Julia Wertz Illustrates Her Struggle with Alcoholism in These Darkly Humorous Comics

There’s an old (and mostly true) saying that comedians are depressed. They use laughter to deal with their problems, problems that don’t always go away the second the stage lights are off. Cartoonist Julia Wertz considered herself such a person during a tumultuous period that spanned from 2009-2011 where she battled with alcoholism. “I found myself living the classic double life of appearing well in public but going to hell in private,” she wrote in her essay for Narrative.ly.
